Somehow I always waste the maximum amount of time possible trying to get an Ethernet connection working. When it’s a simple fix I do the hard thing and when I try the easy stuff first, the fix is always really obscure and found in the depths of Tom’s Hardware. For my own reference here are the drivers for my motherboard if I should fuck my shit up again. Motherboard is a GA-890FXA-UD5 (rev. 2.0) with an AM3 socket chipset NOT an AM3+.
Today the problem only required turning off and unplugging the power supply. Tomorrow will be worse. Always do these steps in order.
- Check network utilities
- Disable and re-enable devices
- Full shutdown and unplug, then reboot
- Check the Ethernet cable
- Restart the router
- Then fuck with drivers
